Hi! My name is Sydney and I own Edwobbens farm. I am a twenty four year old who built this farm/ business from the ground up. Any time I tell someone that I own or owned a farm, their response is always the same. “Was it a family farm or…” Nope!
My father has been in the Navy for as long as I have been alive and I did not get the opportunity to work with animals beyond dogs and cats until I moved out. I moved out at seventeen to start my bachelors degree in colorado. During my three and a half years studying for my bachelors, I worked at two separate ranches and decided that I wanted to have my own. So in my junior or senior year, I bought three goats of my own. Initially they were boarded because my ex fiance and I were not prepared with our own land. Eventually we moved to a rental property with some land where we kept the goats and got some poultry as well. This turned into seven goats, ten alpacas, two llamas and plenty of poultry within a year. Within that year, my fiance and I split and I started my masters degree.
Believe it or not, running an entire farm by yourself and getting your masters degree is incredibly difficult. Somehow I finished my masters and managed to keep the farm. I then started working full time and I was continuing to build up the farm with the occasional help from friends. Unfortunately, this job took a turn and I had to leave.
Because I lost my main source of income, I also had to sell the animals and cancel the lease that I had on land in order to job search full time. It just about killed me to say goodbye to my babies and not be able to fulfill my passion.
I have tried to keep up with my tik tok and my fiber arts, but I have not been doing a very good job. However, about a month ago, I got married to the love of my life and I am now working a pretty good job. Thus, I decided to jump back into things since I have the capability. I picked up my spinning wheel and my knitting needles and got to work.
I hope to get animals back in my life soon. In the meantime, I will post blog posts, knit goods, spin yarn, and make my tikity toks. I hope that you will stand by me in my journey.
